Abstract

The  article  is  devoted  to  understanding  the  changes  in  economic  development  from  the viewpoint of changing management paradigms. The methodology of neo-institutionalism was chosen as the most productive because it considers management and the system of state
management as the leading autonomous factor in the process of social and economic development. The main hypothesis of the research is that the trajectory of economic development is determined by management paradigm prevailing in the society with its characteristics. The
purpose of the research is approbation of the management paradigm in justifying the trajectory of social and economic development (on the example of Russia). By changing the dominant management paradigms authors substantiate the transitions of Russian economy devel-
opment from the end of the 19th to beginning of the 21st centuries. On the basis of periodization of Russian economic development, authors confirm the leading role of state management in the formation of economic structure in the country. An important conclusion is that
any economic transition is a consequence of shortcomings in management, untimely appeaance of a new management paradigm. This can be seen at different levels of economic systems – from state to enterprise.
